[Video + Lyrics] Postback 2018 Opening Act | Peter Hamilton & the Fine Tuners

Postback 2018 opening act

Peter Hamilton and the Fine Tuners opened Day 1 of #Postback18.

Opening our annual marketing conference with a musical act has become a yearly tradition, thanks to opera-singer-turned-TUNE CEO Peter Hamilton. In years past, those musical acts have kicked off Postback with a bang — literally. (See here and here for proof.)

Postback 2018’s opening number was another one for the books, but for a different reason. Peter and the Fine Tuners, his band of talented TUNE employees and friends, treated the crowd to a rendition of “Down in the Valley,” a song by local Seattle band The Head and the Heart. While just as catchy and martech-inspired as years past, this year’s performance represented the more reflective, measured mood that has permeated the industry following everything that’s happened in marketing and advertising over the past year.

You can watch the full performance here, or just hit play on the video below.

“Down in the Valley” lyrics

I wish I was a slave to an age-old trade
Like writin’ up creative and runnin’ display

Lord have mercy on my data-driven ways
Lord have mercy on my data-driven ways

Call it driving performance
Call it real ROI
But it don’t make no difference if the budget runs dry

‘Cause it all ends in clawbacks if you cheat or if you try
Yeah, it all ends in clawbacks if you cheat or if you try

Over and over and over again
Testing over and over and over again

Oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh
(x3)

And now there’s GDPR, yeah it’s a big deal
Gonna need consent for any data sharing
Down in the terms and conditions showing
All of the ways that you can opt out safely
These are the pages you should always scroll
These are the terms that you did not know

I am on my way, I am on my way
I am on my way, just to be compliant

Oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh
(x2)

[spoken]
Thank you all for coming, makin’ it all this way
I see you here, you’re ready to learn and play
I see your face in the crowd, yeah, you came
You’re here to grow and to build new business out
There’s a reason you’re here, and it’s this
You’re here to grow and to find new partnerships

Oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh
(x2)

We have made it here, we have made it here
We have made it here, we have come to Postback

Drivin’ value, with more channels
Usin’ all the latest in big data science
Down in the data, with audiences
These are the places you will find me mining
These are the places you will always go
These are the outcomes you will always grow

We have made it here, we have made it here
We have made it here, we have come to Postback

[crowd call]
We have made it here, we have made it here
We have made it here, we have come to Postback
(x3)

Drivin’ value, with more channels
Usin’ all the latest in big data science
We’re not in the Valley, we’re in Seattle
Gonna take some time, look at the bigger picture
We will define what marketers must know
You have come for more than just a show

I’m glad you made it here to Postback today
Lord have mercy as we party for two days
