Saira Nayak moves to TUNE to continue the growth of the company’s privacy program and security practices.
TUNE (https://www.tune.com), the leader in attribution analytics and the company behind the products MobileAppTracking (MAT), MobileDevHQ (MDHQ), and HasOffers, today announced the appointment of Saira Nayak as the company’s first Chief Privacy Officer (CPO). As CPO, Saira will continue building TUNE’s privacy program and security practices, while demonstrating to industry members and regulators how TUNE’s unbiased position in the marketing ecosystem brings much needed transparency to partners and protects consumer data. In addition, Saira will work closely with TUNE’s network of clients and partners to define best practices for sharing and securing first party data for marketers.
“I can’t wait to watch Saira further define and share our privacy and data security practices in an effort to help lead and advise our customers and partners on these important issues,” said Peter Hamilton, CEO and Partner at TUNE. “I’m grateful to be bringing on someone like her, who has been a leader in privacy throughout her career at companies we greatly respect, including both TRUSTe and Microsoft. I see this as a major move for a company of our size, and I strongly believe this investment will make a difference in our ecosystem.”
Saira was most recently Director of Policy at TRUSTe, where she advised on global data protection and privacy laws and rules, and worked directly with TRUSTe’s product teams to integrate these requirements into the company’s certification and assessment products. Saira was also responsible for communicating TRUSTe’s privacy message externally.
Saira began her privacy focus while working in-house at the Microsoft Corporation, where she counseled product groups on privacy and data security compliance; she also advised on antitrust and competition matters under Microsoft’s consent decree with the US Department of Justice and several state Attorneys General. Before Microsoft, Saira practiced at Dickstein Shapiro, a Washington, DC firm, where she advised AT&T, Pfizer, RIAA and other clients on antitrust and consumer protection issues.
“Saira has very effectively advocated for responsible privacy standards in the US and around the world,” said Jules Polonetsky, Executive Director and Co-chair of the Future of Privacy Forum. “TUNE will benefit from Saira’s experience and expertise in supporting the development of top notch data protection programs, and TUNE clients will gain from her reputation for trust and respect for consumers.”
Saira, a native of San Francisco, California, received her undergraduate degree from the University of San Francisco in 1994, and her J.D. from Boston University in 1998. She is licensed to practice in California, DC and before the US Supreme Court. She is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (“CIPP”). Saira served as a Vice-Chair on the ABA Antitrust Section’s Privacy & Data Security Committee from 2010 – 2013 and, in that capacity, led a team of privacy practitioners that are revising the ABA Antitrust Section’s Consumer Data Handbook. She currently serves as a Vice-Chair on the ABA Antitrust Section’s Long Range Planning Committee. Saira is also currently on the advisory board at the Future of Privacy Forum.
“We are honored to be adding Saira’s expertise and insight to our team,” said Danan Margason, General Counsel at TUNE. “Saira has advised a wide range of clients on legal, policy and government affairs matters, and has been especially focused on privacy for the last six years at TRUSTe and Microsoft. Saira will be a tremendous asset to TUNE, our clients, and the entire industry going forward.”
“TUNE has a unique business model that sets us apart. Our insights into the marketing ecosystem–and the fact that we don’t try to own or monetize end user data–positions us well to be a thought leader in this space,” said Saira Nayak, newly appointed Chief Privacy Officer at TUNE. “I’m excited to work with smart people and great products, as well as the opportunity to define and promote TUNE’s privacy and security message to our stakeholders in government and industry.”
